Got the external WD drive back working too with USB v3.0 spec, used Renesas driver for an unknown listed in Device Manager + WD SES Device Driver also, which I had added previously.

Was odd, had Renesas listed as a single item (installed it from it's own .exe) until I did that, and the WD external would ONLY work on a USB 2.0 port at that time, I have a USB 3.0 4 port hub, only has 2 USB v3.0's direct off the motherboard in back, hub is new, but worked fine in last build.

Without the Renesas driver actually added for the unknown, the drive wouldn't work even as a 2.0 in a 3.0 port, that was new one on me.

I have had lots of unknowns that functioned anyway like pen drives, so I was ignoring the !'d Unknown.
Clean for once Device Manager screen below:
He he Faladu sounds like my main Toshiba laptop the brightness control for the screen works in reverse for unknown reason
That drive mate perhaps something is awry with the controller inside??

The WD external has been working flawlessly now, whew, I was gonna be really in a mess with that being my main backups for numerous things, it's barely been used, I only attach the power supply to power it as needed, it's back working attached to the USB 3.0 hub hidden behind the case, it has no power off/on switch so that is method I use.

Hum Faladu mate wouldn't that have the same effect as unsafely removing the drive? unless you do that beforehand which I am guessing being a dedicated user you will know:)

I had a 1TB drive external I killed this way before I was wised up by someone in my early days to safely remove

But glad you got it sorted!!

I know all about the write caching feature and yeah I don't use it and even so routinely watch my USB devices lights to make sure they aren't active when removing, just to be safe.

I have not corrupted ANY usb device yet, so I know my method is working.
