Each time it shut down (save for the first time) it happened roughly 1-2 minutes after being turned on.

Nothing. Screen just goes black and the PC shuts off. The few times I booted back up, there were no errors that I could see.

Not hot at all. Every time I've checked my CPU and MB temps they've been within 5 degrees of 30*Celsius.

No results... same as before:

Standby LED is glowing green when the PSU is plugged in, but any attempt at booting the PC results in nothing. No spinning fan, no other LEDs, no beeps or BIOS screen... nothing.


As it stands, I think I'm about ready to buy a replacement motherboard. I'll check here within the next few minutes for any replies, but then I'm heading out.

Every thing works out of the case but not in the case. That could be the motherboard stand off's are in the wrong location and shorting out the motherboard.
I'm not familiar with your case but I don't think it has a removable motherboard tray. Is that correct?
Next I recommend reading and understanding your motherboard manual. Many new motherboards really don't know what to do with one stick of memory. Never assume where the memory modules go. Install only as per motherboard manual. The first slot closes to the cpu is not always used as a starting place.
Their are many things that can cause this problem. Check and make sure that all connection do not have any side tension on them. The cable when routed should not be tugging on the connection.

Let me be clear: it doesn't work in or out of the case. Plus, I did read the MB manual and I made sure to place the RAM in the correct slot.

But regardless, I've bought a new MB... I'll let you know if I keep having problems.

I thought you meant with the board out of the case all was well too. Otherwise, I'd also suspect the board. Been there done that 5-6 times. There was a rash of ASUS board that came with bent pins. Carefully inspect the ones in the new board.

At that time it WAS out of case and worked, but later it wouldn't work whether it was in or out of it.

However, I think it's very very safe to say that my motherboard was the problem. I went through with buying a new one and surprise - everything works perfectly. No issues as of yet.

Glad you have it up and running. Building a new box and getting a defective major component can be very frustrating.

I really appreciate everyone's help. *If* something goes wrong with this new motherboard (and so far nothing has), I'll be sure to come back, but otherwise it looks like I won't need to return for a while.
