USB not showing up on my computer

My new Duracel USB stick is not showing up any more on my laptop. It used to before. But, I got a serious BSOD with a virus and since then, the USB won't show up. Other USB devices will show up on my laptop. The USB shows up on my desktop with windows XP. And when I plug my USB in my laptop, even though it doesn't show up on my computer or disk management, the laptop will still make the chiming noise that something's detected. Any ideas? This USB still works on other computers, and other USB's work on the laptop.

plug it in, wait for the detected noise. Go to the device manager

control panel -> system -> device manager
And look if there are any items with a exclamation mark or other, notification type icons next to them.

    report back.

    Dear Barbarian Roman,
Is the laptop responding to the insertion of the "duracel" USB with any message like"unknown device detected" or any symbol displayed?you may try this method : with the USB in place ,restart! Check whether the USB is displayed in "computer". Most USBs are FAT formatted and are thus considered by many to be easily removable, by casually pulling the stick off from the slot, but i would prefer the safe method of removal!

Thanks guys, but I finally figured out the problem. It was because of virtual box, it treated it like a virtual USB drive, even though I uninstalled virtual box. I went into printers and devices, where it shows everything hooked up to your computer (not device manager, that was useless) and sure enough, it said virtual USB. So I uninstalled the drive, and it's working fine now.

My problem turned out to be similar. Acronis TrueImage had created a virutual USB drive, which caused real USB drives to frequently not show up. I uninstalled TrueImage, and the machine is working fine now.

Thanks for following up and giving me the virtual drive hint.
