    Find your motherboard manual; it is a must to have.
    I do agree with kbrady1979, stick with the Intel SATA ports.

    I called Asus again, and spoke to a rep that previously helped me.

    There are 4 6gb ports, but the other 2 are external, which I am using for my external hdds.

    You could do that, IF you have hard drives using up the Intel ports. I would keep everything off the 3rd party chipset ports and disable them to be honest. I've got mine disabled currently. I would rather get a RAID card for more SATA ports than use the ones on boards today lol.

    1 HDD
    1 BluRay/RE
    1 DVD/RW
    3 eSATA front panel
    Oops, I took one HDD out. :)

    Gotcha. Honestly, I wish I hadn't put an optical drive in this rig. I think I've used mine once since I built this rig, which was over a year ago.
