Buying a Seagate SSHD for my laptop?

The first SSHDs, especially the 3.5" ones, had issues but the reviews on the current ones are as good or better than most HDDs (otherwise, I wouldn't have bought one). The Sammy 840 is a pretty decent drive for the money.

That is correct. I suggest the OP read this tutorial before installing the SSD.

That is correct. I suggest the OP read this tutorial before installing the SSD.

Read it, and will disable disk defrag as soon as I set up the OS.
The other parts of the tutorial are meaningless to me since I will be doing a fresh install, not transfering the OS.

If you are doing a clean install of Win 7 on your SSD, you won't have to disable disk defrag. Windows will recognize it is an SSD and won't defrag it. There are some other settings you will probably want to change such as page file, system restore, hibernation(if you don't use this feature) and there are some aspects of Samsung Magician you need to look at, but all that can wait until you get the SSD.

There are other advantages to using an SSD over a mechanical spinner, especially in a laptop. SSD drives draw less power and generate less heat. Both of these are good things when running on battery and will extend the time you can run on battery quite a bit. Less heat is always a good thing in a laptop.
