External HD not in "Desktop" but is shown in Disk management

    Hi all,

I have this external drive that I use as a backup from time to time. I tried to connect it to my comp today but nothing happens. I checked the Disk management and there it is, I can also "remove it safely" by right clicking then selecting it in the taskbar, the only thing I can't seem to do is browse through it.

I tried a fresh reboot without and with it, that was to no avail. I tried connect it to my laptop and that was fine. Here is a screenshot of the disk management if it can help

    Thanks for your input

Are you plugging it into the USB connector you remember you usually use? If so, try a different USB slot, preferably one in the back of your machine.

This is Seagate's HDD troubleshooter page. Scroll down to the end of the list on the left, about a third of the way down and you will see: Troubleshooting a Seagate or Maxtor external hard drive that isn't found in Windows

There are steps there including the one I offered to help solve your dilemma.

Are you having this trouble with Disk 3 or Disk 4?

Thanks for pointing it up, I was trying to fix Disk while it was Disk 3. I just assigned a letter to the drive and now it's all fine.

    Thanks
