    800mhz fsb t7700 chip. ram is only 667mhz


    dell 0U990C motherboard. Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A16. does it support 800mhz ram and would it make much of a difference? pretty cheap to upgrade. why does dell not provide info on motherboards, or much else? cheers.

    I have not looked it up to see what your board will support, being a Dell you are not likely to have the option to manually set your RAM timings. (this would allow you to see what the BIOS will allow you to go upto). Worth a look, just Disable SPD, dont save though.....

    If you have a RAM/CPU Bus Ratio option, see if it will allow 1:1, this would run 800mhz ram alongside your 800mhz chip.

    To be honest there would be no noticeable difference from switching 667 out for 800mhz memory, the latency would go up even though the throughput could be higher.
