Installed second HDD but Windows is blocking access

    The computer is new.

I added a second HDD (G:) from my old computer. Windows Explorer sees G:, lists its files, but when I try to call up a file, it says I have no access. This in spite of my administrative rating.

I have tried to change the security configuration on G:, but then it starts calling up the files one by one and denying access.

    What am I doing wrong?

Can you post screenshots of the exact error messages?

Also post a screenshot of the disk management screen

Start> In the search box type computer management> Enter> Click on Disk management and post a screenshot of that window as well.

    Hi zarfs,

If you have anything on the drive you want to keep, copy it to where ever you want in 'Safe Mode' How To Start Windows 7 in Safe Mode

When done, restart your pc, right click the drive and format it. Then go to Device Management and right click it again and select uninstall, reboot your pc.

    Problem solved

There's probably a faster way to do it — I'm new to Windows 7 — but I solved the problem by going through the G drive and removing the authorizations left over from Windows XP. All is working fine now.
