Compaq laptop "plugged in, not charging"
I bought a new adapter (universal, 9.5V-24V) and set it on 18.5V like my original charger was. It worked for a while and then stopped charging (although it still powers the computer). So I tried uninstalling Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery from the Device Manager and rebooted, nothing happened. Eventually I got it charging again when I set it on 19V, but now it seems to decide it doesn't always want to charge it like that either. So now, when it stops, I either take out my battery and put it back in (does not always work) or differentiate between 18.5V and 19V.
Is there a possibility that Compaq has a fail-safe against using third-party chargers? Or could it be a software malfunction somewhere? I'd like to try everything before I go buying a new battery/charger.
Before you ask, I have charged my comp with a Dell charger and it worked (then again it was only once so I don't know about what it'd do in the long run).
