    Formatting back to NTFS

I've been running my desktop on Ubuntu 13.04 for the past 6 months after my version of windows 7 corrupted and I didn't immediately have access to a new disk. Now that I have a Windows 7 Ultimate disk and have run it when I went to install I was told that it can't read the Hard drive and I need to format back to NTFS to read files, but it told me that if I insert the computers Driver disk it can do it itself. Problem is they are both disks. I have tried formatted from a Ubuntu live Cd using the Gparted software that comes with it, but I gave up after about an hour when it was still "scanning for devices" and I wasn't able to do anything. What I need is to do a Full format and I have access to a few usb's, a usb with Ubuntu 13, and my windows 8 laptop.

The computer I'm doing this on is a Dell inspiron 530 which has 1 HDD and an i2 quad.

If it doesn't help - I would think that your HDD is messed up and Windows has difficulty seeing it - completely wipe your HDD with DBAN and again try to do a clean install as above.

For wiping with DBAN the relevant portion in this article may help. How To Do A Fresh Install of Windows 7 - Personal-tech - Desktop Operating Systems - BYTE

Note: Be sure to remove all other drives both internal/external (including Flash drives, Card Readers etc.,) before using DBAN.

If you do not want to burn a CD with DBAN ISO, you can try to create a bootable pendrive with that ISO with Rufus Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way

If your internal HDD is a Seagate or Western Digital, instead of DBAN you can zero your drive and restore it to the factory condition with Seatools for DOS or DataLifeguard diagnostics for DOS respectively - most preferred by me.

    Hi ImagineKam,

    Welcome to Seven forums.

Kindly run the diagnostics on the system to confirm system harddrive functionality:

    Diagnostics

If everything is fine under diagnostics then you should boot to system recovery and then command prompt using the disk:

    System Recovery Options

    Then perform clean disk:

Disk - Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command

Once it is done then you can clean reinstall the windows:

    Clean Install Windows 7

If you have created a system image earlier using our software then you can follow the video below:

    Reinstall Windows

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.
