The only difference between HDMI and DVI is that HDMI carries both audio and video, whereas DVI is video only.

Much more convenient to configure unless you have a nice 5.1 sound system or something like that.

I really like the Viewsonic monitors, I have had very good luck with them, one is 7-8 years old and still looks great, no pixel problems. The new Samsung stuff is also very nice. Those would be my brand choices.

I agree. Viewsonic monitors are actually not too expensive. But if price does not matter for you, you should get a ASUS monitor.

Whatever you get, try to get something with an IPS or PLS panel, instead of a TN panel. Samsung and LG are actual panel manufacturers so you can't go wrong with a good monitor from them. Asus monitors have really came a long way as well. I prefer a DVI connection because you can screw the end into the port so it won't come loose. HDMI and DVI will both support 1920x1080 @ 120Hz so it doesn't really matter which one you use, but you can get a DVI cable cheaper more than likely.

Thank you for the reply, sir. May I ask if you manage to remember the reason why DVI is better than HDMI if it is for computer use?
Before replacing my monitor I did some checking on the web & the information that I read through from various sites generally indicated that DVI was better for computer use. There really was no absolute statement that I could find, but the consensus seemed to prefer DVI over HDMI.

What is your budget range about?
HDMI and DVI are nearly equal, some say that DVI is sliiiiightly better, but I don't think you could tell the difference, and HDMI has more options to it. As for the brand, I know from experience that Asus makes some really awesome and cheap monitors.

But yeah, say a budget range and I will try to look something up :)

Assuming you have all the outputs available from the pc, when you get the monitor, you could borrow the HDMI cable from your tv and try it out. Monitors with HDMI and no built in speakers should have a 3.5mm stereo socket to connect to external speakers, The HDMI sound channel can then be utilised.
