Media buttons on keyboard: Play/pause restarts songs

Hi, having a bit of a weird problem with my media keys on my keyboard. If a song is a decent way through and I press the play/pause button, it skips the song back to the beginning as though I pressed the <<l button. If the song has only just started, it functions as usual.

However if I manually skip through a song within the software and then play/pause with the button, it works normally...I'm using winamp at the moment my keyboard is a Logitech K360 wireless.

Have you installed the latest version of Logitech SetPoint?

I have a Logitech G110, don't have SetPoint installed, and the keyboard audio controls work just fine. In fact, I've had problems with SetPoint not working well with my Logitech mice in the past so, if SetPoint is the problem, removing it might be the best solution.

Otherwise, I'm thinkin' the player software may be the problem. The keyboard has no way of knowing how far along a song is.

My keyboard works if setpoint isn't installed, but none of the special buttons function at all - i.e. the media buttons and the volume buttons. I don't think my mouse works if I don't have setpoint installed.

That's a good point, but I don't know how to test that. I only just moved from itunes to winamp but I didn't really use the media buttons before then, so I'm not sure if it's made a difference.

Try to use showkey to test the media button :
    XBMC-MCE - Browse Files at SourceForge.net
and search for all plugin update for your media. And, i alwais use vlc - i found'it the best media soft for all the times.

Really, really don't want to change software. It works with my friends and their keyboards so I'm not interested in switching.

I'm running the 'Show Key' app but I don't understand what to do with it.. looks like this? Image 2013-09-25 at 6.28.16 PM.png

check in winamp /options/prefrences then global hotkeys

click reset defaults and try the media keys then.
if not maybe try setting them as hot keys or just the play key.

I can't seem to set them as hotkeys since they're not really keys, either way nothing happens when I press them when I try to set them..

ok, i had hoped they would do something . mine work fine.
maybe have a bit more of a play with them

this is the winamp guide for hotkeys...

    Global Hotkeys

    • Enable default multimedia key support: Will attempt to process media keys by using WM_APPCOMMAND messages ('off' by default). Try checkmarking this option if your Play/Pause, Stop, Previous & Next keys aren't recognized by just using the 'Enable' Global Hotkeys setting below.
    • Enabled: Checkmark this to enable Global Hotkeys. Global Hotkeys can be used to perform actions (Play, Stop, Next, Previous, Rate Items, Copy Title, etc) even when Winamp isn't the active application.
    • Action: Select which extra hotkeys to enable via the drop-down menu.
    • Hotkey: Use your keyboard to select a unique hotkey for the selected action (eg. hold down Ctrl + Shift + H) then click the 'Add' button.
