Hi Kent,
Thanks for your input, worth investigating :) What software is your preferred choice for monitoring the GPU?

Graham,
I like hwinfo and hwmonitor, both have 32-bit and 64-bit versions, neither one requires installation, just unzip them to a folder and double click the exe file. Both of these show their info in a tabular form. They also give you a LOT of information, more than almost anyone needs. :)
For getting the info as a graph, use GPU-Z. Click on the SENSORS tab to see the graph. I think that this app requires installation, but I could be wrong.
All of these apps will log to a file.
Hope this helps to track down your problem.

Enclosed is a screenshot of the GPU temp etc. I will re-check again first thing when I boot-up in the morning.

Strange thing today? When I booted-up the PC I left it for 20mins without going on-line or picking up my emails (order of the day usually) and bingo, the screen never went blank??? So, could this be a software fault after all?
All input gratefully accepted
Graham
You could of picked up a bug (infection, PuP) that does this every time you open a browser or access the internet.
Have you checked your system with security programs.
Thanks for your reply LB.
I have ran both my VC and MBP and nothing shows in their scans.
Graham
Ah sorry, VC virus checker and MBP Malwarebytes Pro
I don't no the brand Virus Checker. I do see you use Kaspersky, that is good.
I do use Malwarebytes Anti Malware Professional.
Here are some I also use now and again. They work well for me. They are free. Just watch for the extra goodies you don't want to download.

Graham,
Cold boot this morning and the PC has worked fine, no blank screen. Correct?
Interesting, it could be a software problem after all.
I am curious, though, did you monitor the GPU temperature? The graph that you posted earlier shows a rather warm GPU at essentially no load. For comparison, I have a passively cooled Radeon HD 7750 that idles at 30C at a room temperature of 23C.
Is your ambient temperature higher or lower than usual?
