Win 7 ultimate 64 bit does not see my printer

Microsoft reloaded my win 7 ultimate to try and solve this problem and canon updated the driver. The printer spooler works with a different printer (one I do not own). I thought I could solve the problem by doing a fresh instal of win 7 ultimate from the cd but don't know how to reset the boot disc to the dvd drive.
    can any one offer suggestions?

Ps I think there may be a problem with 32 vs 64 bit - my cd is 64 bit but safe mode seems to show 32 - not certain how this applies but the driver is 64 bit - this is why I wanted to re-instal the OS

Before installing I would try going to the Canon site and see what drivers they have. If you make a Restore Point first then you can try installing a few drivers and see if the spooler is fixed. If not you can always go back to where you are now.

I did instal the driver from Canons site. Are you suggesting I instal a different driver from the one that's recommended?

That's odd. You could try installing the 32 bit driver and see if that works. Weirder things have happened...

I got the impression Microsoft was in control. Now you say you manually downloaded and installed the driver? In any case, if it's new I don't trust it. I'd back off to the old. If that works, then try the new one. If the newest driver breaks it, get rid of it and go back to what works.

I don't know how many times I've seen people jump onto the latest and greatest driver only to find stuff is broken as soon as it's installed. I wait a few weeks and watch for complaints. :)
