Cleaning up some old threads before I leave this forum (going WinX) & it looks like I never properly closed this one.
The Sapphire Radeon 7790 GPU was at fault. Replaced with an EVGA (way back two years ago) GeForce GTX 760 SC & have not had one problem since.

Somewhere in this thread someone suggested removing the GPU all together & testing. Suppose that would have been the best way to eliminate the GPU as culprit. Thanks to whomever suggested, sorry didn't follow advice.

    Cheers :)

Hmm well I don't remember saying that but it certainly sounds like something one of us would have done.

Sorry you are leaving the forum I am wondering why though as it doesn't make any difference to you to belong to both But I am just a stuck in the mud eh?

    Probably Bear said it.
I'll upgrade the laptop first, play with it for a few months & see how I like WinX.
    Baby Steps
In fact I just started picking up parts for a gaming rig, my first build. Perhaps I should put the copy of Win7 on it. Show us your WEI is my favorite thread after all. Know you like it too.
Fun to watch people take pride in their PC. Doubt the MAC forums have a similar thread

    The build so far:
    NZXT Phantom 410 Mid Tower
    AMD FX-8350 8-Core Black Edition
    ASUS M5A99FX Pro R2.0
    G.SKill 16GB (2x8GB) 1866 Sniper Series
    EVGA SuperNOVA 850W PSU
    Crucial MX100 512GB SSD
    Seagate 3TB HDD
    Pioneer 16X Blu-Ray burner

Yep those threads are if nothing else a good source of info for gear for building and keeping up t date with stuff.
As matter of interest (or not) I am just about to upgrade my Ivy Bridge build to Skylake - partly because the board is itself dying.
In any case good luck with the build mate if you do leave the forum then we shall be left guessing

By the by I would personally go with a Corsair PSU after trying a few others have had no problems at all with the ones I have used

Not really leaving sevenforums - just a bit over the top drama.

Have been lurking tenforums quite a bit the past couple weeks, trying to prepare myself. Since the laptop is a core-2-duo hoping WinX (stripped down - disable Cortana/system restore/telemetry, local instead of MS account, uninstall a bunch of apps & anything else I discover) might even run faster than Win7
Have retail version of Win7 on the desktop, Now thinking don't upgrade but keep it instead.

Since I already picked up SuperNOVA hope it works out. Also saw a longtime poster here complaining about G.Skill just yesterday. Said he would never use in another build

Oh Well Guess we'll find out.

Yep good idea after my brief go with 10 I shall be giving it a wide berth. In nay case you only have to see the sheer number of those who in all innocence upgraded and have tried to get back to 7 - posting in here a multitude of problems in doing just that.

As for the privacy issue well if Microsoft cannot access your data then who could??

For the G Skill stuff a good site is this for info Welcome to the G.SKILL TECH FORUM - Tradesman is a wealth of knowledge I use G Skill for most of my builds and cannot fault it.

To listen to some of the good folks on this forum re:WinX & the Telemetry business you'd think MS were trying to pull their molars out with a pair of pliers. Particularly the thread about hiding WinX upgrade updates.

Thanks for the G.Skill link & affirming my choice in RAM

Ok newpgm the G Skill stuff is good and if you want advice on any type / size etc the Tradesman like I said will guide you especially I found when building but I am guessing even if the machine comes with another brand he will still advise on the G Skill you need in any specific machine.
