    Crash/Auto Reboot/No Signal

I'm out of ideas, hoping someone here can help. I'm having trouble with my desktop. I had to travel out of state for about a week and shut it down before I left. I had been having small graphic glitches that I was trying to ignore, and it was so rare that I almost thought it was imagination. The day I got back I fired her up and started to check my email when it crashed on me. It flashed to black and white vertical stripes for a split second and then rebooted itself. When it rebooted the monitor kept flashing no signal, and would go to sleep. I tried manually restarting the computer several times hoping it would come back on, but nothing. My first instinct was that it was the graphics card, so the next day I removed it and connected directly to the motherboard. To my delight it came on and appeared to be functioning normally for about 5 minutes. Then it was a repeat of the previous day. Same weird stripes, same reactions. At this point I was thinking it must be a faulty power supply. I paid a visit to my sister's house (who replaces her computer at the first sign of any trouble) and borrowed parts from her computer graveyard to test this theory. After finding what I was looking for I switched them out, still nothing. Any ideas of what it could be?

It was a faulty RAM stick, switched them out and it worked fine.
