    I just tried #39, and when I tried to restart something screwed up so badly that it had to do a startup repair and a system restore.

    #39 just changes 1 value in registry!

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\CodePage]
    "OEMCP"="437"

    What's your OEMCP value now?

    change the ACP value from 949 to 1252 . See #35 . Reboot. Does \ work as expected now in windows?
    BTW system restore is enough to revert the changes

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Console\RasterFonts
    and
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Control\Nls\CodePage (First scroll down so I can see ACP, OEMCP and OEMHAL)
    output please from a good working machine!
