Keyboard incorrectly inputting backslash on Windows only

I'm having a bizarre keyboard issue that I'd greatly appreciate assistance with.
It's an issue with my work keyboard, where every time I press the backslash (\) key, when I'm using Windows only (not when using Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc.) it outputs as a W with a horizontal slash through it. Also, whenever looking at a file extension, it is showing this character instead of a backslash. This is making my work life difficult.
A little history, I just got this laptop about 2 weeks ago through work, it is a refurbished Dell Latitude E6400 running Windows 7. Thus far, this is the only key having this input issue. I've checked all my language settings.
Once again, any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I'll input screenshots if necessary.

    Hi Zendelai,

    Welcome to Seven forums.

Please check the system under safe mode and let us know the results:

    Safe Mode

Also, check a external keyboard with the system and let us know how it works. It could be malware issue with the system as well.

Check for infection by installing Malwarebytes, update, run a Full Scan - in Safe Mode with Networking if necessary.

Kindly update your system specs here by following this.

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

    Hi Sandeep,
Thanks a lot for the advice, I've taken your recommendations but unfortunately the same issue seems to be appearing. Any suggestions on where I should proceed from here?

So not in chrome and internet explorer. But try WORD, excel, notepad. Same issue?

But do you mean "when using windows only"? You mean windows file exlorer for browsing files and folders?

Please post a screenshot with the wrong character

That's exactly what I mean, when trying to open folders etc., even my folder names have the character.

I've attached a screen shot with it.

    Thank you!

So it's just a display problem. All language settings are fine? Here you see exmaple how to check. I think you want all to be english
    Windows 7 or Windows Vista

    1. Click Start
, type intl.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
    2. On the Keyboards and Language tab, click Change keyboards.
    3. Click Add.
    4. Expand the language that you want. For example, expand French (Canada).
    5. Expand Keyboard list, click to select the Canadian French check box, and then click OK.
    6. In the options, click View Layout to compare the layout with the actual keyboard.
    7. In the Default input language list, click French (Canada) – Canadian French, and then click OK two times.
    8. In the Regional and Language Options dialog box, click OK.Note The Language bar appears on the taskbar. When you rest the mouse pointer over this bar, a tooltip appears that describes the active keyboard layout.

    Hi Zendelai,

You are most welcome. Please follow the advice from : Kaktussoft and post the screenshot if required. I am sure it would be minor appearance or language setting issue which could be easily rectified.

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

Wow!! This is what I got when I went to the layout. If you could just let me know how to set it back to normal it would be very very appreciated.
