7 umounts external drive during large transfers?

Yup, it's been happening ever since the install. Everytime I perform large transfers or transfer of many files, windows seems to unmount it smack dab in the middle of the operation! And the copying windows doesn't respond to conventional methods of exiting. This has been a problem for a while, and if there are any solutions or wordarounds please do tell or share experiences.

    Hi Chazzeromus,

Your device is becoming overloaded/overheated due to the transfer operation and its controller chipset is resetting, This is usually an indicator that it needs replacing before it ceases working altogether

Everytime Ive had that exact same problem happen, the drive was very hot causing the drive to just fail and it eventually stopped working altogether after a month or two

Vista does copy files much slower, the only other cause might be that's its using a more updated driver than the one included with Windows

Very tragic, I've never experienced hard disk failures and I never want to.

Seven was actually copying slower than vista when it does it's freeze problem. Well I ran chkdsk and fixed a bunch of errors (the one's windows caused because of dismounting) and turned off caching. And it's doing it again, this horrible. I'm going on vista to copy this, this is BS, I'm getting very frustrated.

I'm having similar problems on a Seagate external HD. I'm trying to copy large aounts of data from my media player to my external HD (all unprotected). It simply stops in the middle of the transfer. No heat, no other problems. If I select about 5-8 folders at a time, it works fine. Anything more, and it just stops working. Strange. Using Windows 7 Pro.
