Replace Win 8.1 with Win 7
Hi,
I ask because I purchased a Lenovo laptop (Ideapad 580N) that came pre-installed with Windows 8 which is a nightmare. I recently upgraded to 8.1 because it supposedly had some Win 7 features, instead, it has been worse than Win 8. I've never removed one Win OS and replaced it with another and I have not purchased the Win 7 OS software yet. Is there anything I should know beforehand? HATE is a strong word, but it's the only word appropriate as to my feelings of Win 8 and if possible, I would like to get back to Win 7 asap. Thank you. |

Thanks for responding. I've read and been told that the downgrade to win 7 is only available if win 8 Pro was installed on my laptop. My laptop came with regular win 8. I also called Lenovo and was told that I cannot even downgrade back to win 8 after the 8.1 upgrade, which is why I am considering just buying win 7 OS software and replacing win 8 altogether with that.

In the tutorial, I did not see that mentioned at all, so, following the tutorial and you should be fine .

That's your best bet. Get a Windows 7 OEM license for $99.99 - e.g. from here:

They're called "downgrade rights". Here is one of the links I found that mentions downgrading is only available with the Pro versions. Understanding downgrade rights

Try Classic Shell before you attempt the downgrade.

Yes, agree with whs , depends where you are but it isn't much to pay to escape from Tileworld.

Thanks, but I am already using Classic Shell. I downloaded that not long after I discovered how bad Win 8 is. Though classic shell is better than the tiles, win 8 and 8.1 are so horrible that classic shell seems like a Band-Aid on a bullet wound. I like my laptop as it is better in many ways than my desktop, it just needs a better OS than Win 8 and win 7 is definitely better.
