keyboard isn't working (most of the time)

    Acer Aspire 5750-6589, Windows 7

My keyboard isn't working. Whether it's in Word, Note Tab Light, OpenOffice or on a page on the internet, it doesn't type any letters. Page up, page down, End, Home and numbers don't work either.

But here's the really weird part. If I'm on a web page and I try to type something in a search window, the letters aren't shown in the window but if I type any of the following letters, they do something. F, E, V, S, B, T, and H. If I type the letter F, the "File" window drops down. If I type the letter E, the "Edit" window drops down. Same goes for V (View), S (History), B (Bookmarks), T (Tools) and H (Help).

Is computer just with messing with me?

    Or what?

    Thank you

    Hey BBkink,

Do try the suggestion by andrew.

Check for the Alt button. Make sure it is not pressed. It can be that the button was pressed and it did not came back.

    "My car won't start"

"Have you tried a new engine?" Ouch.

New keyboard was my first thought but I was looking for a less expensive solution to begin with, like "Clean the battery terminals" or "Check the connection of the battery cables."

    But I think you're right.

That was weird..... I clicked the "alt" button once, nothing happened. Twice, same thing. But I keep tapping it while tapping a letter key, both very quickly and once in awhile, a letter would show up. The ratio was about 15 clicks for "alt" & letter to 1 letter showing up.

Looks like a new keyboard is the answer.

If the new keyboard works fine, I would take it to acer if its still under warranty and get it repaired since its a laptop
