Thanks for the response yes it is the same as the spec's went to check if the charger is alright and it is still responding voltage of 19.45 for the charger and its from march 2010 by the way but not used a lot since I usually have it plugged into the wall anyway.

interesting if you boot for instance a live distro of ubuntu does ubuntu also say it has no battery charging? it could just be a power management issue in windows but its probably your battery has just degraded form being constantly plugged in (that's not good for them, they need to discharge every once and a while to stay healthy). EDIT: forgot xp says the same thing you need a new battery then or the sensor in it for reporting its power level has failed. either way you need a new one it seems, is that one internal? what is the model of your laptop?

I had the same problem until I discovered that it was not charging whilst I was running the OS. Shut off the OS and see whether it charges. But wait a couple of hours to check status.

Laptop Battery - Plugged in, not charging.
As per the thread title, the battery is recognised as being present, but is not charging, and when the power is disconnected, will not run on battery power. I have come to the conclusion that it is most likely a hardware issue, see below. Comptuer is the one in my 'System Specs', just on 2...
