    TN or IPS monitor

I know this has probably been covered somewhere but just very quickly what is the opinion re TN v IPS for performance in general use situation - no real gaming just like to have quality.

Price is another factor of course and I have options from $190 - $1400 and in reality I am not looking at above $250 max.

IPS or PLS all the way. Absolutely beautiful colors and almost 180/180* viewing angles

This is really a matter of personal preference. Some people are very particular about how things look and/or do not care how much it costs, other folks have a hard time noticing the difference and put saving money above performance. Who am I to tell you what you should like or not like?

The key to your question is two conflicting specifications: "for general use" and " for quality".
You do not need an expensive monitor to run spreadsheets, check email, or post on SevenForums. That is what I consider general use. Any well rated TN monitor will do just fine for these applications for 99% of users.
But the best quality monitors are IPS and PLS, no doubt about it.

So I guess you have to ask yourself: do I have a need for a high quality monitor that justifies the higher cost?

Thanks for the heads up I just like to have the best I can afford really and perhaps I am being a bit picky. What made me look was after having the laptop hooked up to the TV and seeing the difference in quality I thought about getting something a little better than I have.
This is one I would consider LG EA63V-P 23in LED IPS Widescreen Monitor [LG-23EA63V-P] - $219.00 : PC Case Gear
