    hard drive speed/windows shutdown

I am just wondering what the deal is here because about a week ago I did a fresh windows 7 ultimate install on a brand new western digital 2tb hard drive and at first it was booting up and shutting down fairly quickly. However, now, it seems like its taking like almost 5 minutes for it to shut down. Is there possibly a firmware update for this drive somewhere that could fix this; or where do i go from here. This is on a 7200rpm wd drive with 64mb cache. Thanks Matt.

    Hi matts,

Have you partitioned the drive? or you installed OS on 2TB hard drive? You must have installed other programs on this drive as well. So, now the OS has to read the whole drive before it boots or shuts down. You can check the disk for errors.
    Follow this tutorial Disk Check

Also keep in mind it may not be drive related could simply be an appliaction hang, try safemode and see how long it takes

If safe mode works ok then i would try Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup (and shutdown)
