Does cpu does a big change in gaming (FPS)

im just curious, does cpu really matter when it comes to gaming? for example i have dual core processors a pentium D 3.0ghz and pentium E5200, both have same ram, mobo, gpu card.

does fps changes much or not. as far as i know fps depends massively on gpu card.

It literally depends on the game. A faster CPU will have a positive impact, but that can range from a little to a lot ( like Crysis3). The GPU is by far the biggest factor in fps.

It depends on what games are you playing or what games you call "average games"? With the processors mentioned, modern games will not even start. Forget about the FPS.
