I think I have the same SSHD and made some performance comparisons. It is actually pretty fast and I am very happy with it. I do, however, only use it as a storage device.

At the moment it appears my OE Seagate Momentus HDD may be completely dead. I installed it in my Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H/i7-4770k pc at work in an attempt to retrieve the data from it before continuing with my 1000H repair efforts. I could not make the i7 pc boot with the Momentus in SATA Port1 (Samsung 840 Pro = 0, ATAPI = Port 7). The i7 pc POSTS, but Windows will not load so, I do not reach the Desktop.

Our IT guy attempted to install the Momentus in his pc and observed the same result. Furthermore, he stated the Momentus was not warm and gave no indication or disk motion. Would the inertia be sensed when held in the human hand? I suspect yes. The BIOS recognizes the Momentus in both desktops, but it appears this consists of all the progress I can make on my own.

Any ideas as to how I can test/evaluate my Momentus HDD further? Retreiving the data from it...in a non-costly manner?

Try to retrieve the data with a live Linux CD. Linux is often more forgiving than Windows.

Thanks for your suggestion. I May be well-prepared for it as well. I recently downloaded fedora 20 for my x86 desktop and am ready to make the bootable CD.

I need a little more hardware assistance before I can continue. I decided to purchase the Samsung 840 Pro SSD. As a result, I need a solid recommendation for the USB/SATA adapter. The kit from Samsung would have been more convenient, but I think the required hardware items can be purchased for much lower cost.

Please advise.

HDD vs SSD vs SSHD
Hello, recently I've acquired an alienware m14xr1 with an i7 core 12GB RAM, 3GB VRAM, 120GB SSD. It's a second hand computer. With original SSD, the boot was literally 2 seconds. To expand the capacity, I've decided to replace the SSD with a 750gb 5400rpm hdd, and I must admit that I regret...

SSHD - Performance comparison with HDD and SSD
We had several discussions regarding the benefits and performance of SSHDs. But since nobody had any real data, I decided to order a SSHD when a reasonably priced model was on sale at Newegg. I ran comparison tests with a HDD and a SSD and the details are below. I have removed the original...

Just got 4TB SSHD, can only see 2TB. Don't think I have EUFI, options?
So my HDD just bit the dust and decided that until I buy a new PC from scratch I wanted to buy this Seagate 4TB drive. After installing windows on it I only see 2TB. From what I've researched I need to make my drive GPT, which I can only do if my motherboard supports EUFI which I don't think it...

Looking for a Pata SSD or SSHD
My wife's first laptop - Vista from Febr. 2007 - is very slow. It has a 5400RPM HDD with a disamel 3.9 WEI. Since the wife keeps holding on to this thing - it's her pet although she does have 3 modern laptops with SSDs - I wanted to upgrade the disk. Unfortunately it is Pata (IDE) and there are...

Defrag on SSHD
Now that I have SSHD installed, I wonder if defrag should be any different than regular HDD. I just do not want to defrag SSD part. So far did not come across anything that will give me access to it, still.. Thanks in advance.
