No USB Keyboard/Mouse in Windows 7

Recently my wireless usb keyboard and mouse stopped working in windows. Since they are wireless I tried changing the batteries without success. I went back to a corded keyboard and still no response. I know the keyboard is working because I can press F12 to enter the BIOS setup and then can also press F8 to get to the boot menu. I can arrow up and down to select any of the options. Unfortunately I notice there is no longer a command prompt option with Windows 7.
    I am really stumped.
It is a HP Desktop AMD Sempron running Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit
    Any advice?

    Robert

Hi Robert, Welcome to Seven forums.

You need to install the USB 3.0 Drivers for your motherboard as this also updates your USB controller. If you type devmgmt.msc it will bring up your devices so you can check out if there are any other devices you need drivers for. Download the USB drivers from the manufactures website of your k/B and mouse.

    Hi Robert,

    Welcome to Seven forums.

You would need to reinstall driver software for your keyboard and mouse. Kindly post a screenshot of your device manager:

You can also update the drivers for your system following this:

    Driver Install - Device Manager

If you are unable to perform the same, then let us know hardware ids:

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

No USB keyboard/Mouse in Windows 7

That's just it, I can't do anything in Windows because the keyboard and mouse are not working. I have tried both corded and wireless. I know the mouse and keyboard work because i can launch the bios setup and the boot menu and move around no problem. I can boot from the windows recovery disk and choose the driver option however I am unaware of where to find the right driver and the specific files that need to be uploaded.

    Thanks.

    Hi Robert Delamain,

Kindly provide us with the information asked in the last post. If none of the keyboards work in the system, then perform the steps below:

    Startup Repair

SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.
