Change the name of a device in device manager

Found this tutorial on the W8 forum:

TUTORIAL: How to change device names in Device Manager

Seems easy enough. Can someone confirm that this works in W7 the same way?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, "FriendlyName" is used throughout Windows 7 too except there's no need to go through all the Permission steps. At least not for a personal PC. Use the same Driver Key search to find the device. This is a Registry patch so take all the usual precautions.

Ops???????? Oh, ok. I see. :)

It's there. You have to look for the key. It's not for the clumsy though. :) My problem is that I have about 6-7 HID devices and it's tough to determine which is which. You can also use it to change the name for Monitors that show as "Generic PnP Monitor". It's handy if the default INF names bother you that much.
