USB Ports Not Working
Last night I was transferring some files from my laptop to my external hard drive and everything was working fine but then a couple hours later, I went to plug in some rechargeable USB batteries that I have and noticed that they weren't lighting up. I then tried plugging in several of my other USB devices but none of them were connecting either. Also, I was transferring the files between my Xbox and updating my Ipod at the same time so I was connecting and disconnecting a lot of times over that short period of time and I'm not sure if that might be an issues? I've tried several other solutions after Googling the issue but none of them have worked so far. Here's a brief summary of what I've tried:
- Restarting the computer. (However, I did notice that if I plug in the batteries after restarting the computer they do light up for a split second and then instantly fade away.)
- Turning off the computer and disconnecting all power sources and re-starting.
- Checking device manager and checking for driver updates and re-installing the USB controllers. It said that they were up to date and there are no exclamation points beside any of the controllers.
- Running the sfc/scannow tool. I didn't find any integrity violations.
- Doing a system restore back to a couple days ago when they were working fine.
- I ran a full virus scan with Microsoft security essentials and it didn't find anything.
- The only thing that has even remotely given an inclination of an error is this fix it tool I downloaded from microsoft support and it says "Hardware changes might not have been detected. Windows Update configured to never install drivers" and "Change Windows Update settings - Not Run" but when I check my device installation settings, the automatic update option is ticked and when I manually check for updates, it says they are up to date. So maybe I do have a virus or malware? I'm just not sure.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
