Correct amount and type of ram to install in a mid range gaming build

Hello, thanks for taking time to look at my post.

I'm planning to build a gaming PC that will allow me to run some of the newer titles, nothing fancy.
First off, how much ram do I really need? Will 8GB be okay or should I consider 16GB?
Also, how much will the speed affect my performance? What speed should I get? (keeping in mind I'm working on a budget)

Again, thanks for looking at my post and thanks in advance for any help you can give.

8gb will be more than enough for gaming. Dont buy just one 8gb stick, get 2 4gb ones, as you basically double you bandwidth with dual channel memory.
Speed and games doesnt make a huge amount of difference, 1333mhz or 1600mhz will be fine in a gaming rig.
Just make sure you set the correct speed in the bios as with most mobos ive encountered they run all dimms at 1066mhz default, regardless of the speed.
