Dell desktop won't start in normal or safe mode

I noticed a problem with my mcafee real time scanning and firewalls earlier today (kept turning off) and thought I might have a virus. My intentions as to download superantispyware, update it, then restart in safe mode to scan my computer to check for viruses. I got as far as the restart and now my computer won't restart in normal mode or safe mode. In both cases it stalls on the startup screen. I tried windows startup repair, but that stalls also. Any suggestions or options?

    Welcome to the forums!

Do you have a windows 7 disk? If so, start and keep tapping F12 to boot from DVD. Choose recovery options, then command prompt. Type C and hit enter. Type dir then hit enter. Make sure you're in the right drive (it'll show windows, users, program folders etc.) Then type chkdsk/r and enter it. That will run check disc and depending on your drive size, take approximately and hour more or less. When thats finished type bootrec.exe/fixmbr and enter it. When its done reboot and try safe mode again.

If you don't have the dvd you can try hitting F8 and pick repair your computer and do the steps above. if you dont have that you can get a copy by following the links in this tutorial and use your coa sticker for the activation. (just click on this link and scroll down to the link for the download) : Clean Install Windows 7

    Hope this helps!

I don't have a windows 7 disk. I tried following he directions from the "Troubleshooting Windows 7 failure to boot thread" and created a boot cd with kaspersky's rescue disk software, reordered my boot order in bios, but whenever the blinking cursor comes up at restart I try to hit enter to start kaspersky and nothing happens, so my computer boots through my hard drive. I'm concerned that I can't boot from a disk either.

If you want to boot from CD, you may have to change the boot order. Keep tapping F12 (ESC on HP) when you power-on. There you can change the bootorder temporaily by highlighting the CD Rom with the up/down key. Then when the _ blinks, hit the space bar.

Mentioned that I already changed the boot order. The kaspersky directions tell me to hit enter when my computer starts up...tried spacebar too but neither do anything.
