Testing Standard SATA hard drive

I'm just wondering if a Standard SATA Hard drive would fit into my Acer Aspire v5?

I want to test to see if the hard drive is working and don't have a USB converter cable for it at this time.
I am not sure if it will fit into my other laptop.. & I didn't want to open it up if there is no need for it.

Your Acer Aspire v5 (a laptop) should have standard SATA drives, only smaller. Desktop's usually have 3.5" SATA drives, laptops have 2.5" SATA Drives (the number is the physical width of the drive).
If you want to check if the drive is working or not, why not use a desktop? A laptop is rather hard to unlock, and swap drives, and some laptops may have room for 1 HDD, not 2, meaning removing laptop HDD, connecting the new one, testing, removing the new one, putting laptop HDD back.
Or if your laptop has a Esata port, you can try connecting it to the HDD, and a sata power to the HDD with the desktop (havent tried it myself, should work tho).

You're right, it is smaller.. The hard drive I have from another laptop does not fit into this one.
I am needing to test it, to see if it has died. But without a desktop, or adapter to connect the hard drive I thought I could maybe put it into my working laptop.
Looks like I'll have to buy an adapter :)

Why not ask a friend for a desktop? Not worth buying an adapter for a single use, Unless you want to make it a Ext. drive.

Yeah I could do that, but I'm not sure I know a friend with a working desktop.. I think I'll just take the hard drive into a shop and get them to test it for me. :)
