Solved Why must I assign a drive letter every time I use my external HDD?

I have a USB3 external drive that I use for backups. It works A-OK. But every time I plug it in I have to use Disk Management to assign it a drive letter. Is there some driver or option in WIn7-64 I need to find/tweak?

open command prompt
type in diskpart
automount enable
