    Laptop Processor Upgrade

First post so please bare with me,

I have a HP Pavillion G Series laptop running an AMD E2-3000M but i want to upgrade to something faster. My question is would i be able to upgrade to an AMD A8-5600K 3.6 GHz Processor Quad Core FM2 4MB 100W Black Edition?

If i upgrade will i need a new version of windows too?

    Thanks in advance

What's the full model number of the lappy? It may require a new motherboard if available. Many use soldered in CPU and aren't upgradeable.

I don't think that this will work.

    1. Your current CPU has a FS1 socket and the 5600K has a FM2 socket.

    2. The current CPU has a 35W thermal point and the AMD A8-5600K has a 100W thermal point. That would produce too much heat for the laptops cooling.

The CPU is usually not the bottleneck for performance - unless you do video encoding or other very CPU intensive tasks.

The true bottleneck is the disk. I suggest you replace the HDD with a SSD. That is a LOT faster. I don't know about the UK prices - shop around. Here on Newegg they had a very good 256GB Mushkin for $130 today - just to give you an idea.

Here is a tutorial to help you make the switch.

SSD - Install and Transfer the Operating System

I have equipped my 6 PCs with SSDs and they work wonders. Even on 2 of my old 2007 laptops.
