Question is not budget but is it worth it. The $399 system I linked is a very nice and useful system. I have a very similar one and it performs great. But I paid $599 for it 2 years ago. Shows you how fast prices deteriorate. Mine has a backlit keyboard and 2 more GBs of RAM. Otherwise it has the same specs.

I think this one is a fairly good one and price.

Nowadays, I would not buy a laptop for over $500. There are some really nice models with i5 available. Unless you do matrix conversions or a lot of video encoding, the i5 is as good as the i7.
