blue ray disk drive reading disk issues with windows 7

    hi,
    i jest replaced a dead dvd rom with a ASUS BW-12B1ST Blu-Ray Writer 12X BD-R 16X DVD+R SATA
and the bios see it, windows 7 see's it and installs the driver but every time i try to access the drive the explorer will go not responding and when i use task manager to shutdown the system hangs on logging off and will sit there forever.

what is odd is if i have a disk in and boot the computer it will see the disk and show and work perfectly with that disk until i remove the disk and insert a new disk (this only happens with audio c.d's, dvd's data disks works perfect and blue rays are untested.

    thoughts?

What a coincidence -- I have exactly the same BlueRay drive as you. However, my motherboard has two sets of SATA connectors and I have the BlueRay connected to the one that is NOT set as AHCI. I found when I had it connected to one of the AHCI connectors, I could not boot using it and had problems using it otherwise.

i only have one chip set with sata ports on it and the system does run AHCI because of the SSD hard drive setup i run.

i also tested the drive in a box with no AHCI and no issue, so i ordered a new drive from Liteon and will sell this one or something. really i jest need dvd reading and maybe some burning from time to time.
