Uploading Pictures From Memory Card To PC

Just recently, the pictures that are on my memory card (Canon PowerShot A540) are not showing up on my computer. I used to be able to find them in the file on my computer called, 'CANON_DC (E), but now it says that the folder is 'empty'. When I plug the memory card in, the list of devices changes to include, 'CANON_DC (E) but there's nothing there. I've tried right-clicking it to try 'uploading photos' but that option doesn't present inself. I'm probably not giving you enough information, but based on what I've written so far, does anyone know what I can do?

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Yes, I can see the pictures and, as I said, I was always able to find the pictures in the past. I've obviously done something to mess things up but I have no idea what. Is there some information about my system that would allow you to see any recent changes made to my pc that might cause this?

Why don't you take the card out of the camera and read it directly from the SD card reader.

Did the pictures load to the memory card or camera's memory drive?
You might want to transfer photo's directly from camera with usb connection.
One time I took photo's but forgot that I didn't have an SD card in camera so I ended up transferring photo's from camera to pc.

That sounds like something I would do. When it comes to me and my computer, whatever can go wrong, usually does. (Murphy's Law)

Anyway, I can't find my usb cable but I shouldn't need it because the memory card always worked in the past. I know the pictures are on it because I can SEE THEM when the card is in the camera. I just don't know what happens to them between there and the PC. They used to always be listed in one of the files that branches off CANON_DC (E). I'm wondering if somehow I've changed something that used to include the file where the pictures are and now excludes it?? (You know how you have to tell each library what folders to include?) Well maybe I've inadvertently done something to cause the file to appear 'empty' when it should contain the pictures on my memory card.

I just now read whs's post to "take the card out of the camera and read it directly from the SD card reader". How do I do this?

You take the sandisc out of the camera and put it in the card reader, do you have a sandisk card reader on your pc ?

In your 1st post you even say "when I plug the memory card in"

This is to TVeblen. Yes, I can view the pictures when the card is still in the camera but they're nowhere to be found when the card is plugged into the pc. (As I posted previously, the pc does acknowledge when I plug it in, but, alas, the file that appears is empty.)

Sandisk is a general term, so what are you plugging the memory card into then ?
