Windows 7: HTPC doesn't see my external USB3 HDD

Still somewhat of an issue. The channel guide works fine but I still don't get the channels I pay for. They work on my cable box in the other room.

Can't restore Win 7 through USB3.0 from my external HD
I have backed up my Win 7 form Backup/Restore option from windows to my External HD but when i tried to restore it the restore system can't find my External HD as all USB ports are USB3.0 So, can any one help me to restore this win Thanks

Install to external usb3 SSD
Laptop with Win8.1 installed on internal 32GB eMMC drive. yuck. bought external usb3 ssd drive to install win7 (or maybe XP) on. How can I accomplish this? Note: Laptop and external ssd sealed. No way to put it in the laptop, install, then take it back out.
