Using HP Deskjet 5740 as a network printer with 7

I've been trying to install my HP Deskjet 5740 on my Dell Studio XPS 1640 notebook over my home network. Windows finds the printer on the network and attempts to install the driver but an error message comes saying "Windows can't find the driver for HPDeskjet on the network" when I press ok it asks to locate the INF file.
I tried many locations on my notebook but it still doesn't find the file. I then copied the INF file from the desktop that the printer is plugged into and then tried to install it but then it says it can't connect to the printer.

If it matters at all I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64Bit

The Desktop the printer is plugged into is running Windows XP Professional 32bit

And I was able to install the printer on another Desktop over my network that was running Windows 7 RC 32Bit with no problems

    Thanks in advance

sometimes networking printers on win 7 can be a chore. You may have to install it as a local printer first then as a networked printer

    Hope this helps

I tried this and even tried selecting no on device installation settings. I still get the same error about the INF file.

so can you describe step by step what you are doing and i will try to do what you are doing at my house.

Everything you described to do I followed, turn updates to yes, do this automatically, go to devices and printers and add network printer. After it finds the printer it attempts to connect to it but the INF file error that i described earlier comes up
