Can't connect to new router - hard-wired.

    One thing that has not been mentioned - is the weakest link in any Ethernet installation - The cable itself!!

    My first check in any install is that the cable is working - without a bespoke tester the best way to test this is by replacement, either by swapping the cable in use to a spare or by connecting another device (Laptop?), that is known to work wired for the problem PC, (if the laptop works then this also proves that the fault is with the PC)

    Ethernet cables are very fragile and I've known them fail just from removing and reattaching

    Maybe worth a try before reloading drivers etc :)

    Given his screenshot from Device Manager, it seems impossible to believe that the existing hardware (which definitely shows currently as the nVidia Nforce gigabit LAN adapter) would not also have been what was operational before the router switch. Hard to imagine that it previously was the Broadcom B5071 (as I've already observed should be what appears per the ASUS motherboard specs) and now is an nVidia Nforce adapter.

    Maybe it's just nomenclature. Maybe the nVidia Nforce adapter has a Broadcom B5071 chip inside it, but still shows in Device Manager as nVidia rather than Broadcom.

    I agree, uninstalling and reinstalling the most current LAN adapter driver from the ASUS download site is "prudent". But my own feeling is that this is not the "solution" since things were working fine before the router switchout. I believe it's most likely the new network that got created by the new router but which has not been correctly enabled and defined as "home network" yet, or (as was suggested by barman58) possibly a bad cable, or a possibly defective router or LAN port on the router, or some other configuration issue still expecting the old router and its network, rather than the new router and its 192.168.1.* network.

    Sorry for being silent, but with the wireless thing a temp fix, I have been working - I have a ton of stuff to do, so I will try all the fixes mr. drpsberger said this weekend, will report back.

    I tried all fixes, to no avail. I ordered a nic card from amazon, so fingers crossed about that.

    I suspect my network thing is just plain old.
