    Laptop not turning on

hey guys I am trying to diagnose a problem with my old laptop that I am going to start using again and when I try to turn it on it will not turn on its a Toshiba L455D-S5976 all the indicator lights come on just fine, my question is did the hard drive go out or is it another problem and I will note that the battery in this machine no longer holds a charge you have to keep it plugged in all the time and I kept getting the blue screen everytime I tried to use Windows and if its the hard drive I will be replacing It and ordering recovery media from Toshiba

Not turning on, meaning it has a black screen?

Test AC Adapter output. Check the AC Adapter jack.

When you first turn the PC on, can you hear the HDD to spin up?

If you hear the HDD, turn off the power, then try to Power Cycle. Remove AC Adapter and battery. Hold down the power button for a minute or two. Install battery, AC Adapter, and try to power up.

If screen is still black, try in Safe Mode. Anything yet?

If the battery is toast, you may have cooked the AC adapter. (I must be thinking of food right now.) A bad battery can draw too much current from the adapter to also power the laptop. Try running the PC without the battery. Some will and some won't. Also while you're in there, change the button battery. It's probably dead too.

IF you're not seeing anything at all on the laptop screen during booting, the screen could be bad. Until you see something on the screen, we're all just guessing in the blind.

If I were you, I'd see about connecting an external monitor to the laptop (you may have to buy an adapter and/or a cable to do this) and when you start up the laptop, press the Del key (or whatever other key is used to get into the BIOS settings) and at least see if you get something on the screen.

You should be able to get into a BIOS settings screen with no hard drive, or a failed hard drive.

OP has said all lights are on just no hdd noise or start up screen. I think this indicates bad hdd. Asked but never heard if rig will boot to bios.

I was thinking it was the hard drive to but I wanted to ask you experts first and see so I think I will just replace it and then order the recovery disks from the computer manufacturer and then replace the battery

Well first your laptop should still enter into bios, reboot or turn on and hit whatever key gets you into bios and if that works then I can almost guaranty it's the hdd.
