That won;t work - for a whole list of reasons. You have to reinstall the programs on the new laptop.

Nice laptop - a bit expensive though. This is a good one that I would buy.
Looked at your link - I don't want Windows 8 and this one is even more expensive than the one I am considering.

I only want it for surfing Web,playing my music, etc. - No games.
I understand. It is just a question of what you get for your money. The on I linked is a superb upscale system for a very reasonable price. The one you linked sells for $399 around here (on sale). Maybe you want to shop around a bit more. Just my thoughts.

I bought the HP today - here's the convoluted story:

Staples sent me a $100 coupon,BUT it has to be used in-store only.

I went to their website and they don't list the i3 model. (only i5 - $900+)

I called Staples direct and they HAVE that model (different model #, but exact same specs).

I was told even though their price is over $700, they would match it, but in order to use to coupon, I would have to order it on the phone, have it sent to the store, and immediately return it and repurchase it and preset the coupon.

At this point, I was getting a big headache and said that was too convoluted.

She then said that she would use her personal coupon and apply it now.
So, I bought it and was able to save $100 for a total of $399.00.:)

I think for all my trouble, I should get more than $100 off, but I'm not counting on it!

Well, $399 sounds better. They know very well that this is the going rate at competition.

That may be, but if I didn't insist on using the coupon, I would have had to pay $499.99 - which I would not do.

    Hi,

    I'm back to square one.
I received a conformation email on 2/25/14(From Staples) - when I received no further info on delivery I called and was told "out of stock", even though Walmart and TigerDirect said they have plenty.

They also won't honor the coupon - said EXPIRED - even though it is their fault.

They also said many others had the same problem - they don't care.

I'm thinking of pursuing a law suit - maybe Class Action.

Anyway, what's your opinion of this one - as opposed to my original choice, which I can still get thru TigerDirect, though it is $499.00.

    Amazon.com: Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E545 20B20011US 15.6-Inch Laptop: Computers & Accessories

When I called Lenovo yesterday, they never referred me to this one - only laptops over $800 and with Windows 8, which I don't want.

Nice laptop. This AMD processor has a lot of nifty features but unfortunately hardly any program uses them. Good clock speed, a bit weak in the L2 compartment and no hyperthreading. But only 35W which should be no cooling challenge. Here is a comparison with an i3.

AMD A6-5350M vs Intel Core i3-3130M (PGA)

The rest is about at par with other laptops in that price range. I would plan an additional $ 130 to replace the HDD with a 240GB SSD.

    PNY XLR8 SSD9SC240GMDA-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - Newegg.com

    Or any of these:

    Newegg.com - 240gb ssd

And forget Staples. They are useless.

    Thanks,

The prices of SSds seems to have come down since I got my Samsung 830 - 128gb - $120.

So you think this is a better buy than the Hp 4440s?

I can buy the Lenovo and add the SSD for about the same price as the HP.
