CPU does not detect video card

Hi all,

... strange issue that I cannot figure out.

Motherboard: Gateway DX4850
CPU1: i5-2300
CPU2: Pentium G645

When I install the Pentium CPU, it detects the video card in the x16 PCIE slot. When I install the i5 CPU, it does not detect the card.

I've tried the i5 CPU in another MoBo and same issue --- it does not detect the video card.

There are no bent pins on the CPU, and it was previously functional.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?

Thanks for pointing that out. The i5-2300 came with the server, and was working fine up until I swapped it out with the Pentium processor, so I'm not sure that it has to do with CPU/MoBo compatibility.

There's no upgrade involved in this situation. All I did was take out the CPU the came with the Desktop, put a Pentium CPU in the board, and then put the original CPU back.

The result was that the original CPU no longer detects anything I put in the PCIe x16 slot.

I don't think this has anything to do with compatibility between the CPU and MoBo. You can see from the link below that this MoBo/CPU combination has been sold together.

You could check your bios and see if their is a setting to choose graphics.

I couldn't find anything in the BIOS to disable the integrated graphics .

You could set your cmos back to default and see what happens.

Tried that. No luck.

I didn't find a MoBo manual --- just a generic manual that does not provide much information.

I have not found any place that states aPentium G645 should of been installed on that motherboard. So my suggestion may or may not help with this mismatch and the damage that it caused.

Understood --- I will keep trying. It seems strange that the unsupported CPU works fine and the one that came with the machine is having issues.

If that were the case, then the PCIe x16 slot would not work with the other CPU either --- but it does.

I'm really stumped with this one.
