I refreshed it many times it was not coming...sorry i didnt knew of screen shot utility and didn't explore much.It was not coming on left corner too. Drives showing up on left corner were same as shown by mount/unmount untility, screen shot of which i had attached with my earlier post.

Can it be that something is broken(r/w head) on hardware level and cant be fixed ? what is the next logical step i can take here ?

    Thanks

As I said in the beginning of the thread itself your HDD is a goner. You had already tried MiniTools PW, Test Disk etc., So trying to access with Linux was yet another attempt. Since whs recommended it I said OK. Let us go ahead and see what happens. I was also curious.:)

Did you run Datalifeguard diagnostics for Windows? Try it and that is the final word.

If your HDD is still under warranty get a replacement. If not take out the HDD inside and try it as a second drive in a desktop.

It is not possible to say what exactly could have happened but if it was only the interface electronics inside that had become faulty your HDD may still be alright. Note the word may. Nothing is definite until tested.

I did not ask you one question since you never mentioned about it.

Just Curious. Did your drive come with smartware software? Did you install it? Did you ever use it?

    OK great.

Got my new hdd from WD yesterday. Sad that couldn't save that much data.It has all my libraries that i built.
Can u suggest a mechanism so that this can be avoided in future ?

    Thanks

Why wouldn't you get a larger capacity drive if that is what you mean? Or get another drive too to add to the capacity? Two smaller capacity drives is always better than one large capacity drive. BTW what capacity and model number did you buy?

Failure of a drive can never be predicted though statistically they put it as 10000 hrs or something like that to represent the mean time between failures.

If you are losing data that means you are not backing up. If you have data only on the HDDs that is not backup. Backup is when you have the same data in more than one location.. There is no alternative to backup if you consider and value your data not to be lost.

i agree with what you said.I want to start backing up the data and that is where i am looking for suggestion. I mainly have HD/Blue ray movies saved on HDD so i cant back them up on cloud or something. One thing i can do keep two copies of same data on two different discs but that seems like bit too much for movies. Can i make image of hard disk can keep that image somewhere on cloud or some other non expensive method u can suggest ?

    thanks
