USB flash drive stop working after i format it to NTFS

My friend just gave me a 4gb kingston USB flash drive cause he dont use it anymore , so i thought i could use a little extra for readyboost. But when i first touch it , my antivirus software says it has 3 viruses inside , so i format it , and it was formatted as FAT32 , but i ... im not sure what was in my head at that time , but anyhow i choosed to format it as NTFS , then it suddenly just ... stop , i tried anything , it always show me that "the disk is write protected" , so i changed the registry , try format it anyhow , i couldnt do anything to it. Untill i came up with "attack the enemy when they least expect it" , so i unplug it , plug it in , format it to fat32 right when it shows up on the my computer screen , and it worked! then i set it as "dedicate this device for readyboost" and turn off the PC , now i turned the PC on and its write protected again ... idk what to do , or what to explain , is it because this thing is too old to be formatted as NTFS or its because the virus still exist and its eating my PC slowly i dont even know , or its just the flash drive is already broken ? somebody help please ...

May be your computer got infected when you first plugged in that alien pen drive - just guessing.

Now just do this. Let us examine what is inside that pen drive - if possible.

Run WinRAR- your bit version - , after plugging in the pen drive keeping Shift key pressed to prevent autorun. Navigate to the pen drive and a screenshot of what you see inside.

Try wiping the pen drive clean with diskpart Clean All and then format the drive. Disk - Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command

OK, the other thing is if you have dedicated the full space for Ready Boost, the drive will not be available for file storage.

idk , its working 100% of time , the led is not flashing , its always on , im kinda worry .... i've tried everything and it all said its write protected



well .... my other 1gb flash drive is currently being used for readyboost , and i can still store files on it , but not like many things , i tried 2 or 3 pictures

Now take it off Ready Boost duty, by checking Do not Use this device in Properties>OK. Unplug and then plug-in. Is it still write-protected?

hmmm the weird thing is some time it work sometime it doesnt.
i worried about the infection , so i unplug it everytime i dont need it on my PC , now it just let me format it , and its normal now ....
BUT , before this miracle came , there was a time when i tried to do that , and when look inside it , there is a readyboost.something file in it , and when i look in readyboost option , it says the device is not available for readyboost or cannot be used for readyboost. and the file inside cannot be deleted. i'll check it frequently to see if the problems occur again i guess

btw its always running , the light is always on , should i unplug it or ..... ?

1. Have you taken it off Ready Boost duty by going into properties and selecting Do not use this device>OK? yes /no

2. You can get rid of the Readyboost cache file in WinRAR. Just navigate to that folder in WinRAR, right click on it and delete. Even stubborn and hidden files that cannot be removed by any other process can be deleted in WinRAR.

3. Then do a full format with HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool 2.2.3. HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool Free Download ( You have to right click on the .exe file and run as administrator.)
