Windows 7: Windows 7 display spazzing out

Windows 7 display spazzing out

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a Samsumg monitor (21.5 inch, 1920x1080 resolution) and I've only had it for a little over a day. I also have a netbook (Acer Aspire, Intel Atom dual-core 1.66ghz, 1gb RAM) which I've hooked it up to. Tonight, I had a a web browser and an email client open, and I went away from the computer for a while. But when I came back, the screen was totally spazzing out. It was ripping, flashing, and and all that crazy stuff. It seemed to only do it when the image was static - if I started moving the mouse or dragging windows around, it would stop, but when the screen was still again it would resume going crazy. Then, I unplugged the VGA cable to switch to the netbook's screen, and it stopped, but when I plugged the monitor in again it resumed. I also tried doing the duplicate screens. It stopped then, too, but when I switched back to "Projector Only" it started again. The problem seemed to only occur when the monitor was operating at its native resolution (1920x1080).

Just to verify that, I hooked up my old XP laptop and made sure it was operating at 1080p, and I did not have the problem with that.

The problem seemed to go away after a reboot (which was a full shutdown and then pressing the power button, just to be sure), but now I want to know what happened. Was it a temporary OS/hardware glitch? Was it malware?

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

i take it you have checked the connectors from the mobo to the monitor?

also have you checked under device manager (Control Panel\System and Security\System) and display adapters and monitors to check that you have the latest drivers installed.

This happens as soon as the VGA adapter is plugged in. Unplugging it does not turn the laptop screen back on. Toggling with the function keys does nothing.
