    Keyboard & Mouse acting erratically

About 2 months ago I installed Google Chrome because I want to use Google Chromecast. Since that time, possibly only coincidentally, my keyboard sometimes acts as if it's not even connected. After having these problems, I then removed the Chromecast and Chrome, but it seems to make no difference. Sometimes when I press the keys, there is a delay in when the letters appear on my monitor or nothing happens at all. I then turn the keyboard on and off until it seems to reconnect, although I don't think it actually had been disconnected. I am using a Logitech MK320 keyboard/mouse combination. In addition, the mouse also started acting erratically, moving rapidly in one direction or another very quickly.....eventually ending up where I had pointed it. Also, when I left-click on the mouse, nothing happens at all much of the time. This is a relatively new computer, only been in use less than a year, and until the problems described associated with the Chrome install, it had worked flawlessly. I use the computer for stock trading and these problems have made it unusable much of the time. I have a backup Vista computer to use when these problems arise. And I should also mention that the problems vanish as quickly as they appear. But many times during the day they do show up and they are particularly frustrating when trying to make a buy or a sell and NOTHING happens. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hello Gypsy,

    What brand and model computer?

    Run System File Checker

See if the issue continues while using a different mouse and keyboard? (Wired)

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers?

Which Antivirus, Firewall and Malware programs do you use?

We need your system specs completely to give better help.
These two tutorials should help you with installing specs.

    Hello Layback Bear & johnsmith45jock,

Thanks for your response. It's an HP p6616f running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I've tried 2 different wired keyboard/mouse combinations and also a different wireless keyboard/mouse combo with the exact same results. I honestly don't know how to reinstall drivers. If that means keeping up to date on Windows updates, I do. Always up to date. Antivirus is Norton 360, firewall is the standard Microsoft version and Malware is Malaware Bytes (free). I have not yet run the System File Checker. I'm trying to understand the instructions before I begin. This kind of stuff intimidates me as I'm always wary of doing something that will further complicate my problems. I assume System File Checker is different than Belarc Advisor, which I already have on my system?

I also notice several downloads on this WindowsSeven Forums site that suggest they can be fixes for whatever ails your computer and I'm wondering of they are legitimate or typical not so good sites. Can I assume that because they are on this forum that they are legitimate? ie: I was asked if I've reinstalled my drivers. There is an area that says "Windows 7 Driver Downloads". Does anyone know if that is a safe download to use? Thank you

Have you tried moving the USB receiver to a different port, updating the Logitech software?

Yes, moved receiver to front and rear ports with no change. Although there doesn't appear to be any software updates for the Logitech MK 320, I did go to their site and did the reconnect scenario they suggested. Results are the same. No change. I've even tried the original HP wired keyboard and mouse combo with no change.

    Hello Gypsy,

Sorry for the late response. Despite being subscribed to this thread, for some reason, I was not notified when you replied. Just happened to see your new post while searching through the threads today.

I had to read the entire thread, again. I see your uncomfortable with running suggested repair tools, which makes it difficult to properly assist you.

I did notice you saying your computer is less than a year old. If so, it is still under warranty. Which means HP Tech Support is absolutely free. Call HP Tech Support, they will assist you in getting your mouse and keyboard working, again. With your permission, HP Tech Support will use Windows Remote Assistance, to take control of your computer and fix the issue for you.

Before calling HP support reconnect original mouse and keyboard. If you tell them about the other mouse and keyboard, they will tell you to call Logitech support. Better to let them first fix your computer, then if you decide to continue to use the Logitech devices, you can call Logitech to assist you with properly installing their devices.

    Hope this helps,
    John
