Installing a USB3 card for an external HDD

Helping a friend by email to set up an external USB harddrive for backup.
He has installed a PCI card:
    "Installed the card (PCI-E WLX-898U(3+1) V1.0..."
The HDD works when plugged into a USB2 port but does weird things when connected to the USB3 card. (Says no driver installed--update says driver is the latest, etc.)

My question is: Is there something that has to be turned on/whatever to enable the PCI card?

My apologies that no one has come to your aid. Do you need further assistance?

    To answer your question:
There may be a setting in the BIOS that would have to be made in order for the system to recognize the card.

I looked for PCI-E WLX-898U(3+1) V1.0 | Is this it? If you followed the card's install procedure correctly it should've worked. Did the documentation mention anything about BIOS settings?

We would need more information about your friends system. Please be precise, i.e. no etc's.

    • Friends build, custom or an established Vendor?

    • Motherboard model

    • BIOS Make/Version

    • HDD Make/Model to be connected

No assistance needed now because he gave up on the USB3 card and is using USB2, which he says is acceptable.

    Thanks anyhow.
