Laptop BIOS clock running really fast

    Hi,

Recently I noticed that the clock on my laptop was incorrect. I changed it within Windows several times but it kept going wrong again the next day.

I decided to check the clock in the BIOS set up menu and it turns out that the clock is running really fast. I'd say it takes about a second for the clock to advance by 1 minute. I figured this must be what is causing the clock in Windows to keep going wrong.

Is it likely that this problem is fixable, and if so how would I go about it?

    Thanks in advance,
    Caleb

how old is the laptop? most common cause of this issue is a flat cmos battery.

they dont last forever, but should last a fair few years, unless yours is just a dud.

replacement cr2032 batteries cost less than £1/$1

    Thanks for your help!

The laptop is about 6 years old, so I guess the issue could be the CMOS battery. Is changing the battery on a laptop similar to the procedure on a desktop?
