External hdd shows as "off line."I just removed this hdd from a laptop

I just removed the hdd from a laptop.(purchased SSD for the laptop.) I want to use the original hdd as storage.
I hooked it to an adapter and formatted the 1st partition, which had the OS.

I've always been successful doing this task, so I can't figure this one.

The drive,(disc 2) does not show in My Computer and when I used Easeus to format that partition, it said "failed."
When I launch HD Sentinel, it recognizes the drive as healthy and the temp,so I'm confused.

I tried to merge the partitions, also failed.

If I right click on either partition, there is no choice to make it active.

Do I have to format the complete drive?

I have backups of the music and video partition, but would like to avoid that choice if possible.

I'm confused by the pictures. The drive is definitely showing up in Disk Manager as Drive 1, which is what it should do as the second drive.

Maybe I'm dense, but I don't see a problem other than the fact that the drive doesn't have drive letters assigned to it.

Edit: Duh! Wait! The first partition on drive 1 has to be a primary partition. Right now, both partitions are logical. That must be why they aren't being seen...

The first pic is Easus- the second pic is Disc Mgmt.

Problem is it is not showing in My Computer.

In Dev Mgr it only shows as the name of the adapter - but no way of opening it.

I'm in the process of formatting the full drive, since everyhting on that drive is backup up on my PC.

I cancelled the operation and marked the first partition as primary, but only that partition shows up in My Computer.

You must have been posting that while I was figuring out that the two partitions were logical.

    Sorry you had to reformat.

I guess setting up the second partition so it actually could be used would erase the data. I can't remember, can you have two primary partitions on one drive? I don't think so. I think that the second partition has to be a logical drive, and the information for that drive has to exist in the primary partition's partition table.

But it's been a long time since I did anything like that. Sorry I can't be more help.

    Here's what I have now.

No choice of setting as primary or otherwise and now does not show up in My Computer.

    Thanks for your help.

Edit: Every time I thought I was doing a task in Easeus, I forgot to click "apply" and nothing happened.

    All well now.

    Hi there
If a Drive shows up as "Offline" it's usually because it has an identical "signature" to one currently active on the current system.

This can happen where you remove USB devices between different machines or even swap the internal HDD's between machines.

Next time this happens simply try doing this :

How to Change the Disk Signature of a Drive Without Losing Existing Data or Reformatting (howtohaven.com)

    Cheers
